Ghana Stock Exchange Composite Index Rallies as Financial and Telecommunications Equities Surge

The Ghana Stock Exchange Composite Index (GSE-CI) has posted impressive sustained gains across consecutive trading quarters, fueled by robust balance-sheet performances in the banking sector and heavy institutional demand for telecommunications equities.

Banking Sector Rebound and Dividend Yields

Following post-DDEP recapitalization programs, tier-one commercial banks listed on the Accra bourse have rebounded strongly, reporting double-digit returns on equity (ROE) and restoring attractive dividend payouts to domestic and international retail shareholders.

Institutional asset managers, pension fund trustees, and high-net-worth investors have increased capital allocations toward blue-chip equities, positioning the GSE among the top-performing equity markets in Sub-Saharan Africa in real dollar-adjusted terms.

Fintech and Digital Trading Onboarding

Market liquidity has further benefited from mobile-money-integrated retail investment platforms, which enable retail traders across all 16 regions to buy, sell, and monitor equities in real time directly from their smartphones with low transaction commissions.
